During World War 2, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt ordered all Japanese Americans into internment camps in order to dissuade the fears of paranoid Americans that Japanese citizens would feel sympathetic towards the Japanese Empire and undermine U.S. war efforts. In 1944, the now infamous Korematsu v. U.S. decision was announced by the Supreme Court. It upheld the interment of Japanese citizens as security precaution, a sort of pseudo-variation of the “clear and present danger” test established in Schenck v. U.S. that helped to regulate free speech cases. The decision was appalling, and it is looked down upon as one of the most disgraceful acts committed by the U.S. Many have thought that the days of locking up people in crowded camps were down. They were wrong.
I know what you’re thinking. “Why would you even suggest something like this. Do you honestly think Democrats should move to the right in this upcoming election cycle?”
Of course not. I’d like to think I’m a pretty liberal guy, our system should work for everyone. However, when it comes to organization and strategy, the Democrats have not exactly had the best strategy for dealing with Trump in the past few elections.
Every 4th of July it’s one of my family traditions to watch the T.V. musical “1776”. The musical details the meetings of the First Continental Congress as they grapple with the question of whether to declare independence from the English Empire. With a rich score and fantastic acting performances, it makes for a charming retelling of how our country came to give the middle finger to the biggest, and baddest empire of the era.
I got into video games at a young age, perhaps when I was 7 or 8. I remember my first gaming system was a Gameboy Advanced SP. I loved that thing; I remember playing my first ever game, Pokémon Fire Red, all the time.
If you were to tell me 4 years ago that Jordan Peele, co-star of a sketch comedy show, who made ridiculously funny jokes and satire, could make a truly scary movie that would completely screw with us, I would have laughed in your face.
At the close of the 2016 Presidential Election, it was revealed that the Russian Government attempted to hack our elections and tamper with the results. All of the U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that this had occurred.
My opponent is convinced that A Star is Born should have one the Oscar for Best Picture. In fact, he, and many others of this godforsaken country have convinced themselves that it was worthy of being nominated at all.
Last Monday, Fordham had the pleasure of welcoming legendary activist Angela Davis to speak in McGinley 2nd. Ms. Davis was, and is still, a prominent activist within the Black Power Movement, The Communist Party, and the movement to free the Soledad Brothers in California.
Unless you’re going to office hours for philosophy, most of the students here at Rose Hill might never set foot in the building. But for other students on campus, Collins Hall has achieved semi-mythical status. It’s home.
You thought I was done with shoving metal down all your throats, but you were mistaken. I know what you’re thinking, how could death metal possibly reach a mainstream audience.
