No, the title of this article is not satire. President Trump’s personal attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani did have his hair dye melt in the middle of a press conference, and attorney Sidney Powell did claim that the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and current President Nicolas Maduro worked with George Soros to rig the presidential election. Despite dropping Powell from the official Trump legal team, Trump’s legal team held a hearing within the Michigan State Assembly which alleged all sorts of looney theories without any witnesses under oath.
The Hair-Melting Press Conference
On November 19th, the Trump legal team held a press conference in which Rudy Giuliani and other attorneys promoted baseless claims of a voter fraud conspiracy while chastising members of the press who asked for actual evidence of voter fraud. The conspiracy theories revolved around the notion that “Democrat-run” cities are political machines that rig elections and that those who witnessed fraud taking place are too scared to come forward for fear of the safety of themselves and their families. When asked by reporters for evidence of such claims, the lawyer Jenna Ellis claimed that this was only an “overview” and not a proper legal “opening statement.” However, the Trump legal team has failed to provide much substantial evidence of voter fraud in courts as well. In one court, Giuliani even admitted that he wasn’t alleging fraud but rather “clerical errors.” However, the legal team continues to collect testimonies and affidavits of what they publicly claim are sworn testimonies.
The highlight of the press conference was when Rudy Giuliani’s hair dye seemed to have either melted, ran down with sweat, or a combination of both. The end result was a sweaty-looking Giuiliani with black streaks of liquid running down his cheeks while alleging voter fraud with little to no proof. Sidney Powell, who was the attorney for recently indicted and pardoned Army Lieutenant General and former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, also alleged that foreign entities were using Dominion voting services to change the election results. The Dominion Voting Systems Corporation has been around since 2002 and has been used to electronically tabulate the vote in various states and municipalities. Powell claimed that The Chinese Communist Party, the late Hugo Chavez, and Nicolas Maduro were well acquainted with Dominion executives and had swung the election in Biden’s favor. Many right-wing conspiracy theories tend to include George Soros because of his questionable business practices, his left-wing political activity, and the fact that conspiracy theorists tend to be anti-Semitic. Powell’s conspiracy theory was no different, and George Soros was included in the culprits of this alleged voting fraud scheme. In actuality, none of these theories have been properly substantiated. Powell was dropped from the Trump campaign legal team on November 22nd, and Giuliani claimed, “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.” Despite showing up on stage for every Trump legal press conference, the Trump campaign seemingly washed their hands of any affiliation with her various theories.
A Nonsensical Hearing in Michigan
On Wednesday, the Trump legal team appeared in front of the Michigan State Legislature with a group of witnesses, each of whom either worked at the polls or assisted with the election process in some capacity in Michigan. None of the witnesses were even under oath, so the legal permissibility of the whole hearing is questionable. Many Democratic members of the Michigan Legislature were disappointed with their Republican colleagues permitting the various theories to be broadcast and entertained considering the witnesses could have been lying the whole time with no repercussions. The star witness of the hearing was Melissa Carone—a former contractor of Dominion Voting Services. Carone was belligerent and interrupted members of the legislature who were questioning her, and Giuliani had to tell her to calm down. Carone’s crucial allegation was that one poll book’s was over 100,000 votes off, and when members of the legislature expressed skepticism, she retorted, “Did you take it and do something crazy to it?” Carone has previously appeared on Fox News and claimed that the vote count in Michigan was fraudulent and that this fraud was somehow related to food arriving late for poll workers.
Carone was not the only witness who had an outlandish take on the election’s integrity. When asked about what laws could make elections more secure, a Republican election volunteer made a racist argument in favor of mandatory voter ID laws. Hima Kolanagireddy stated that some people think all “Indians like her” look the same, and she thinks that “all Chinese people look the same.” Therefore, she can’t tell the difference between two different Asians and believes that voter ID laws will rectify this problem. Kolanagireddy said, “If some chow shows up you can be anybody, and you can vote.” As if creating her own racial slur wasn’t bizarre enough, Kolanagireddy even insinuated that white males were being discriminated against by poll workers (I’m not making this up look up the video.) The entire hearing was clearly a waste of time, and the only enjoyable part was when Rudy Giuliani released a loud fart while speaking. Despite their various efforts in and outside of courts, the Trump legal team seems to be failing. On Friday alone, another five cases were lost by the Trump legal team as insufficient evidence of irregularities and fraud have been brought forward. The actual instances of fraud and irregularities seen across the nation will have no effect on the outcome of the election. President-Elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated on January 20th, 2021.
