Review: "I Disagree" by Poppy

There comes a time in every man’s life when he must explore the new, the different, the unusual. It’s good to get out of your shell and try new things, to help expand your horizons. It was in this capacity, as the metal connoisseur that I am, to try to listen to people who attempt to enter the genre. Everyone deserves a chance to be heard when trying to bend their style. To be honest, I’m not really sure what the fuck I just listened too. The sensory overload I feel while listening to this album is mind numbing. I feel like half the songs are “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” on actual LSD. The first song, “Concrete”, talks about being buried under concrete with hard hitting riffs, and then morphs into an anime intro for the refrains. It’s odd cause not all the songs are metal, “Nothing I Need” and “Sit/Stay” are pretty chill and remind me more of EDM than metal, except maybe the ending of “Sit/Stay,” which is just random screaming and wailing. Did I mention there’s a song about Jesus? It’s called “BLOODMONEY,” I don’t even know if it’s taking a shot at Christianity or approving it? What is happening, why does the tempo change every other lyric line? “Bite Your Teeth” actually sounds pretty good, but it keeps jumping back from heavy to just normal low-fi pop and it’s so incredibly jarring. I must have yelled “WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING” at least five times during the course of my listen. I’m not sure what to think anymore. My life is a lie. Nothing has meaning.
Where am I? Who am I?
