Review: “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s new song sucks.

Disclaimer: I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but some of her music is so damn catchy, I cannot help but listen to them on repeat.  Red and 1989 had me dancing around my dorm room whenever they came up on my playlists, but her new song, “Look What You Made Me Do” is literal crap.

First of all, the song’s album art reminds me of Avril Lavigne.  Didn’t we leave all of that angst in 2006? Let’s leave that part of our lives then, Taylor.  When I looked up the song on Spotify, I was totally shocked to see the weird, newspaper-y esque cover.  Very different from the Taylor Swift we’ve seen in the past.

As for the song itself, it is as if someone took a Black Eyed Peas song and threw it against a wall and you mixed the pieces into the worst lullaby you have ever heard.  It just sounds so awful.  I think my ears are bleeding.  It is so angsty, and I don’t even know what we made her do.  Taylor is such a goodie-goodie.

Maybe this anger is in reference to her latest trial against a radio DJ who was charged for sexually assaulting the artist.  I am not sure if this is what she is referring to– that is just my theory. (UPDATE: it isn’t).  The song really just gives me the vibe that she is just lashing out at all of her haters as she always seems to do.  What a change, Taylor! Congrats on being “different” from the old you!

No matter what Taylor’s motives were for writing this song, it is the worst track she has ever released.  And I guess her album won’t be any better because as she says in this song, the old Taylor is dead.  I’m just going to guess her next stadium tour will not be as packed out as her last ones.
